Capturing the Bright & Beautiful Chaos: My First Experience as a Courthouse Micro-Wedding Photographer
There is a unique kind of electricity that fills the air during a courthouse micro-wedding. It’s fast, it’s deeply personal, and it moves at a lightning pace. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to step into the role of second shooter for a stunning Nigerian couple’s civil ceremony. It was an absolute whirlwind, and a beautiful masterclass in capturing raw, unscripted emotion.
While the entire experience lasted just about an hour and a half, every single minute was bursting with life.
Embracing a Soft, Light, and Airy Aesthetic
If you follow my work, you know I usually lean toward a moody, high-contrast, and cinematic style. But as an artist, part of the joy is letting the environment and the energy of the day dictate the visual story. For this bright, modern courthouse setting, I leaned entirely into a light, airy, and romantic photography style—and I am absolutely in love with how these turned out.
Navigating the crowded hallways—and competing with an ocean of smartphone cameras pushing in to get a view—was a fast-paced challenge! But the soft, bright light reflecting through the space allowed me to capture clean, luminous images that put the focus exactly where it belonged: on the gorgeous couple.
Before the ceremony even began, the details spoke volumes. The classic elegance of their rings and the soft, romantic palette of the bouquet beautifully set the stage for a bright and timeless gallery.
Bright & Luminous Bridal Portraiture
Once the official "I dos" were exchanged, we found a brief, quiet pocket of time to step away from the hallway rush. When you have a bride this jaw-droppingly gorgeous, a light and airy style perfectly accentuates the soft textures of her gown and the radiant glow of the day.
We utilized the large, bright windows of the building to flood the frame with soft, clean light, beautifully capturing the delicate lace of her dress and her flawlessly styled hair.
Staircase Romance: Clean Lines and Timeless Connection
Moving to the modern staircase, we let the couple simply interact, breathe, and take in the reality that they were officially husband and wife. The bright architectural backdrop gave the entire gallery a chic, editorial look. The contrast between her elegant, short white wedding dress and his sharp, contemporary plaid suit was an absolute dream to photograph.
What I love most about these portraits is how the soft styling emphasizes their genuine joy. Whether they were sharing a quiet glance or laughing together as she playfully reached up to touch his face, their chemistry made it effortless to capture timeless, magazine-worthy images.
